The client
Hydtec is a Swedish engineering company specializing in hydraulic systems and solutions for industrial and marine applications.
In late 2025, Hydtec was awarded a project by the Swedish Coast Guard to review and update several vessel systems to their current as-built status. One of the systems under review included winches equipped with advanced flow sharing control blocks.
For accurate documentation and redesign, these components needed to be available in HydroSym.
The challenge
While reviewing the vessel systems, Hydtec discovered that the required flow sharing control block was not yet available in the HydroSym library.
Without the correct component:
As-built drawings could not be completed accurately
Documentation risked being incomplete
The project timeline was under pressure
This type of control block is highly configurable and includes:
Internal and external pilot supply options
Unloading functions
Flushing ports
Pressure reduction and relief configurations
Multiple end-plate variations
Proper implementation required detailed modelling, symbol logic, and configurator behavior.
Hydtec reached out to Paro to explore whether this component could be added to HydroSym.
The solution
We evaluated the request and estimated that modelling and validating this type of control block would require several full working days.
Together with Hydtec, we aligned on the technical requirements and development scope. Through close collaboration between their engineers and our team, development progressed efficiently while maintaining full technical accuracy.
Within weeks, the control block was fully integrated into HydroSym and made available in the online library, including:
A functional configurator
Section configurations and core logic
Advanced end-plate behavior
After release, Hydtec tested the configurator and provided detailed technical feedback on pilot supply logic, unloading configurations, flushing ports, end-plate connections, and valve orientation.
This direct engineering dialogue allowed us to further refine the implementation.
The result was not just a symbol set, but a technically validated and practical tool engineers can use with confidence.
“We have been using HydroSym for several years. It is easy to use, and the onboarding time for new users is very short. If any drawings or symbols are missing, the HydroSym team has always been quick to add them after a simple email. We are extremely satisfied with the software.”
Impact
Project continuity: Hydtec was able to continue updating Swedish Coast Guard vessel systems without waiting for external drafting solutions.
Accurate as-built documentation: Complex valve configurations could be represented precisely in HydroSym.
Engineering collaboration: Close cooperation ensured correct implementation of advanced hydraulic logic.
Expanded HydroSym library: This type of configurable control block is now available for similar applications.
Conclusion
At Paro, we believe that hydraulic design software should evolve alongside real-world engineering challenges.
When Hydtec needed a complex flow sharing control block to complete a critical Coast Guard project, we worked together to make it happen.
This collaboration demonstrates what makes HydroSym powerful:
Flexibility
Technical depth
Close customer dialogue
Rapid response to real project needs
Let’s keep building the future of hydraulic design together. Draw. Design. Deliver.
